About the business

Come and join a high-tech, future-focused accounting business with a group of like-minded people. At Beany, we work remotely in close-knit, collaborative teams, combining human empathy with cutting-edge technology to make business easier for our clients.

This is a fun, fast-paced environment offering complete flexibility, work where you like, when you like, and how you like from anywhere in New Zealand.

The role

At Beany, we help business owners get their taxes done easily while giving them the clear financial insights they need to make great decisions for their businesses and lives. As our service offering shifts toward advisory, we are seeking a leader to drive this transformation. In this role, you will lead our accounting teams to ensure high standards of quality and workflow performance, while managing a select client portfolio to remain hands-on and lead by example.

In this role, you will empower SME clients to succeed by acting as a proactive, highly valued advisory partner who builds strong relationships through regular check-ins. You will provide direct hands-on advisory services, translating financial data into plain-language guidance, and delivering forward-looking strategic advice, coaching, and actionable insights. Additionally, you will mentor and coach our broader accounting team to replicate this high level of advisory across our client base, actively champion the tools we rely on, and collaborate with sales and marketing to clearly define and promote the value of our advisory services.

What you'll be doing

1. Deliver hands-on advisory, check-ins and coaching

Client check-ins: run regular check-in meetings with clients, walking through their numbers and helping them understand what's really going on in their business

Insights: using our proprietary tools to turn management reports and financial data into clear, plain-English insight clients can actually act on. Give clients proactive, forward-looking advice, aimed at helping them reach their individual goals

Coaching: coach business owners through the decisions that matter, from pricing to cash flow to planning ahead, keeping the focus on check-ins, coaching and strategic advice

Personal client portfolio: manage a small cohort of clients yourself end-to-end, to stay technically sharp and lead by example for the team

2. Lead our onshore and offshore accounting teams

Team leadership: lead and support our onshore and offshore accounting teams, keeping quality and turnaround consistent across the practice

Team coaching: coach and mentor our wider accounting team so they can run the same kind of check-in, insight and coaching conversations with confidence

3. Support sales and marketing

Sales enablement: assist the team to create clear, simple collateral and talking points that help our sales and marketing team understand and communicate the value of advisory

Sales training: train our sales team on how to pitch advisory services with confidence

Prospective client conversations: join sales conversations (as required) with prospective clients to help them understand the benefits of our check-in and coaching style advisory

What you bring to the table

Practice Leadership: proven leadership experience in a New Zealand public practice or Chartered Accounting environment

Qualified Professional: you hold a CA or CPA qualification

A coaching mindset: comfortable running client meetings and coaching business owners through decisions

Commercially minded: comfortable talking to prospective clients as needed and helping our sales team understand and sell the value of advisory

Collaborative Communicator: exceptional relationship-building ability, translating complex financial ideas for clients without the jargon

Live by our brand values: empathetic, expert, clear, accessible and optimistic

Team Management: proven track record in managing, leading, and supporting both onshore and offshore accounting teams to consistently deliver high quality and turnaround performance

Benefits and perks

100% remote flexibility: freedom over where and how you work, across New Zealand or Australia

Work-life balance culture: genuine work-life balance and strong social connections. Take time out for personal appointments or life admin without needing to explain it

Supportive and collaborative team: join a close-knit group excited by the growth of Beany's advisory services

Professional development: ongoing training and the chance to shape, lead and grow a core department in a future-focused business

How we measure success

Client Success: help clients succeed in their business goals through the proactive, strategic advice you give them

Client engagement: consistent, valued check-in meetings that clients genuinely look forward to

Team capability: growth in the wider team's ability to run check-in, insight and coaching conversations independently

Sales enablement: improved sales team confidence and conversion on advisory conversations with prospective clients

Annual accounts turnaround: maintain an average turnaround time for annual accounts that meets or beats internal targets, with a goal of 30 days from submission to final client approval

Job time efficiency (NZ and offshore): improve and maintain efficient time per job across both onshore and offshore teams
